NEW ORLEANS:
Working in Multiples: Diptychs, Triptychs & Grids
MARCH 8 - 12, 2026
This is a special DJP creative adventure designed to expand your vision while re-charging your batteries. Our location is the vibrant city of New Orleans, filled with amazing architecture, award-winning restaurants, and a blend of cultural influences that makes it unlike anywhere else in the US. Our timing in March will allow us to shake off the winter doldrums for springtime warmth and blooming flowers. Based at an arts hotel in the city's warehouse neighborhood, we will explore the unique and colorful French Quarter, ride the famous street cars to the Garden District's oak-lined streets draped in Spanish moss, and visit the New Orleans historic and beautifully adorned above ground cemeteries.
While you can always capture whatever images inspire you, the focus of our week will be on expanding the expressive possibilities of photography by building multiples (diptychs, triptychs and grids). We will cover both the advantages and challenges of working in multiples while sharing plenty of examples to spark ideas for photo grids you may want to create with your own work. Using Adobe Lightroom Classic, you will learn how to lay out multiples and then save the templates so you can use them again and again. Assignments will give you the opportunity to experiment and critiques will provide helpful feedback to strengthen your ability to work in this creative format. And, while you'll create lots of new images, this workshop will also carve out time to enjoy New Orleans cuisine, including the city's rich Creole and Cajun flavors and irresistible sugar-dusted beignets! You might also choose to visit a few art galleries or enjoy some focus time polishing your processed images.
This workshop is great for photographers who are new to creating multiples, those wanting to take their current work in multiples to the next level, and those looking for a way to re-invigorate their approach to photography. Join us this spring for a creative immersion in the inspiring atmosphere of New Orleans!
Please note: Because we will be using Adobe Lightroom Classic software to construct multiples, participants must have at least an intermediate skill level of working with their images in Lightroom. This workshop focuses on making diptychs, triptychs, and grids - it is not focused on creating multiple exposures.
Overview
Our workshop begins with a welcome orientation on Sunday, March 8 at 6:00 pm and concludes after our group slideshow on Thursday, March 12 at 6:00 pm.
Each day will include field sessions led by Doug and Betsy to capture images to use in the multiples you’ll create, daily lectures that cover the concepts behind multiples, the techniques and tips for creating diptychs and triptychs and grids, trouble-shooting, and constructive critiques of your images.
Location Highlights: The opportunities for subject material to create multiples are endless! Some of our potential destinations include: French Quarter, Bourbon Street, Jackson Square, Garden District, Warehouse Arts District, St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, and The New Orleans Botanical Garden.
