JOURNEY THROUGH MOROCCO

NOVEMBER 1 - 12, 2026

Few destinations offer the captivating blend of culture and landscape found in Morocco! Our 12-day workshop is designed to immerse you in the country’s most intriguing cities, villages, cultural sites, and landscapes. You’ll capture the rich textures of marketplaces, the geometric beauty of ancient tiled architecture, and the sweeping vistas of rolling mountains and golden desert dunes.

Our itinerary is created for adventurous photographers who want to experience a diversity of locations. Beginning in Casablanca, we will travel by air-conditioned mini-bus to Rabat, Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Fez, Sahara Desert/Merzouga, Dades Boumalne, Ouarzazate, and Marrakech. Highlights include photographing the cobalt-washed buildings of Chefchaouen (Morocco’s “Blue City”) and the colorful dye vats of the Chouara Tannery, exploring the labyrinth-like medina of Fez (a UNESCO World Heritage site), capturing the spirit of Marrakech’s spice and craft markets, and staying overnight in a remote camp to photograph the dark skies and bright stars of the Sahara Desert. Doug will be there every step of the way to help you capture meaningful images. Periodic critiques will help enhance your compositions and technique, so you bring home amazing photographic stories to share.

Our workshop group will stay in comfortable lodging in great locations and enjoy delicious Moroccan cuisine at celebrated, authentic restaurants. We will be joined by a local Moroccan guide to provide an amazing educational and cultural experience. DJP has partnered with Morocco Travel Adventures Group for a truly unforgettable travel experience (those who joined us for a DJP Cuba workshop know how great their itineraries and guides are)! Join us to experience endless photo opportunities and build unforgettable memories of the natural beauty and rich heritage of Morocco!

Given the travel environment we are currently living in combined with the exciting destination of Morocco, DJP very strongly encourages participants to purchase travel insurance.

We strongly recommend all participants visit a travel physician for current information on what health preparations are recommended for international travel to Morocco.

EQUIPMENT & ATTIRE

We want your experience on a Doug Johnson Photography workshop to be extraordinary and recognize that preparation is one important key to success. Specific guidelines will be sent to participants, but a general list of recommendations can be downloaded via our Gear & Packing List.

In addition to amazing photographs from great locations, Doug makes the workshop a fun experience. This has you leaving with a new group of friends and many memories from the workshop itself.

ACTIVITY LEVEL

Walking up to 3 miles on paved, cobblestone, gravel roads, unpaved trails, sand dunes, and/or uneven surfaces.

To help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, participants are expected to be in good physical health. You must be able to carry your own photo gear and personal luggage, be prepared for variable weather (including sun and warm temperatures), and be able to walk in outdoor terrain that will involve uneven surfaces. Good mobility is also important because some days will involve walking for extended periods of time.

Participants should be comfortable for some extended travel in our shared mini-bus as we travel to numerous sites. We encourage all participants to pack light to make moving your gear easier.

If you have any questions about the workshop conditions, please contact Doug before registering. While we make every effort to support participants, if we find that the activities are more demanding than your abilities allow, we may need to adjust your participation to ensure your well-being and the smooth flow of the workshop.

CANCELLATION POLICY
