HISTORIC MONTANA IN B&W

MAY 11 - 15, 2024

After Lewis & Clark’s historic expedition to explore an uncharted west in the early 1800s, dreamers and opportunists soon followed and settled in what would eventually become the state of Montana. Homesteads, ranches, and small towns popped up around lumber mills and mining towns.

The settlers and their communities may be gone, but their hardships and triumphs are shared in the visual stories preserved in ghost towns like Garnet and Bannack and among the relics and artifacts scattered around the Randolph-Moon Homestead and The World Mining Museum.

During the workshop, we will explore these amazing places while improving your ability to photograph black & white images and effectively process them. Doug will provide lectures on seeing and capturing black & white images and developing an effective B&W workflow in Lightroom and DxO’s Nik Silver Efex. No prior experience in black and white post-processing is required, this is the workshop to take to build or strengthen those skills! Follow-up critiques on your images throughout the workshop to help you create B&W photographs that are both expressive and inspiring.

Join us as we explore the historic and visually rich landscapes of Missoula and Butte to capture these unique Montana places, their histories, and their spirit through powerful black-and-white imagery.
