MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK

Summertime brings new life to Washington’s favorite dormant volcano, Mount Rainier! Rivers, creeks, lakes and waterfalls come alive and wildflowers blanket the meadows with a seemingly playful attitude and colorful display. At 14,410 ft elevation, Mount Rainier is the highest volcanic peak and the most heavily glaciated peak in the continental United States. Stunning mountain landscapes greet you around every corner and forest reflections shimmer in the alpine lakes.
We’ll soak it all in, creating beautiful images of the rugged landscape, lake reflections, vibrant wildflowers, and glacial cascades. Our group will explore the park from two areas, staying first at the Paradise section of the park to reach the southern locations, then moving to Crystal Mountain Resort to explore the northeast side of the park. A gondola ride to the top of Crystal Mountain will provide us with spectacular views of Mount Rainier.

Overview
Our Workshop begins with a welcome orientation on July 25 at 6:00pm and concludes on July 30 at 2:00pm.

July 28 - July 30 | Crystal Mountain Resort
Each day will include field sessions led by Doug at the best times for shooting, daily lectures to improve your photographic skills and visual seeing and constructive critiques of your images. Classroom sessions are tailored to each workshop and are based on participants interests and goals for the workshop. Additional topics are designed to enhance participants’ skills for the type of shooting the location emphasizes.
Location Highlights: We’ll have the opportunity to base ourselves in two different locations (Paradise Inn and Crystal Mountain) to capture the best of what Mount Rainier NP offers. Paradise Inn shooting locations include; Reflection Lake, Ricksecker Point, Paradise Trails and Bench Lake. Crystal Mountain shooting locations include; Tipsoo Lake, Grove of the Patriarchs, Sunrise Ridge and Yakima Park.

Deposit: $1795 due with Registration (after the Early Bird deadline, the deposit will be $1995)
Balance: $3000 due April 26, 2027
*** Tuition includes single-occupancy lodging in both locations (5 nights total) and a trip on the Mt Rainier Gondola to the top of Crystal Mountain. This workshop is limited to 10 participants.

Workshop Details
LODGING
This workshop has two lodging locations and your single-occupancy lodging during the workshop is included in your tuition (5 nights total).
Starting off we will be staying at the Paradise Inn (inside the park) for three nights. The second lodging location for this workshop is at Crystal Mountain Resort. We will arrive July 28 and depart July 30 (2 nights). Again, lodging is already included in your tuition.
TRAVEL
Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to/from the workshop and during the workshop.
The nearest airport for this workshop is the Seattle-Tacoma International Airpot (SEA). You will find that several major car rental companies have office locations on-site at the airport. For transportation to and from field shoots, we suggest that you carpool to reduce our carbon footprint and get to know your fellow students.
Doug Johnson Photography is not responsible for cancellations due to medical or other emergencies or reimbursement of non-refundable airline tickets, hotel rooms in the event of a workshop cancellation. Please consider the purchase of travel insurance.
ACTIVITY LEVEL
Hiking up to 3 miles on uneven and flat mountain trails and rocky alpine shorelines. Elevation: 5000ft - 7000ft
To help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, participants are expected to be in good physical health. You must be able to carry your own photo gear, be prepared for variable weather (including sun and warm temperatures), and be able to walk in outdoor terrain that will likely involve uneven surfaces.

While we make every effort to support participants, if we find that the activities are more demanding than your abilities allow, we may need to adjust your participation to ensure your well-being and the smooth flow of the workshop.

PARK FEES
Participants are responsible for park entrance fees. Click the link to Mt. Rainier NP for information regarding fees and passes (depending on your travel schedule, an annual NPS pass may be an economical option).
EQUIPMENT & ATTIRE
